Triple NBA MVP Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental contact with team-mate Spencer Jones.

Jones came down on the foot of Jokic, who immediately fell to the floor grabbing his leg.

The veteran player, that is leading the NBA season in boards and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the game prior to sustaining the problem.

Jokic will undergo an scan on Tuesday to assess the severity of the issue.

"Immediately, he knew there was a problem," said Nuggets coach Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Whoever who gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as talented as Jokic. We will know more tomorrow."

"We will continue together. Clearly, right now, I'm focused just about Jokic personally and the frustration of experiencing an event of that nature."
