The skiing legend Assured of Being 'in prime form' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after securing a top-three finish for the fourth instance in five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm pleased with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 as a result of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
