A charity drive is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The campaign aims to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
The track was produced following a major charity concert held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The song features a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The group managing the initiative have clarified that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
