The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
