Condemnation Erupts as Former President Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Draws Widespread Rebuke

Personalities from across the political spectrum and the Hollywood world are uniting to censure former President Donald Trump for his statements in the wake of the shocking deaths of renowned director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Provocative Online Statement

Following the discovery of the couple deceased at their Los Angeles home, Trump posted on his platform to describe the late director as "tortured and struggling". The message, he claimed Reiner's demise was "due to the hostility he provoked others through his massive, unyielding, and untreatable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Police Developments and Detention

Authorities have since confirmed the detention of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on charges related to murder in connection with the incident. Reports indicate his bond was set at a significant sum.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The reaction to Trump's post was immediate and harsh.

“What a disgusting and vile comment,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, similarly condemned the statements. She pointed to prior rhetoric from Trump regarding political violence, demanding, "Do you have no decency? Is it possible to get any worse?"

The state of California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "He is a disturbed man."

Mirroring this sentiment, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "Trump has just lost it. Now implying the Reiners brought on their own murder because they opposed him. So sick."

Rebuke from His Own Party

A number of GOP lawmakers also expressed disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". Greene also alluded to challenges with addiction and psychological well-being within families.

Another Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disgraceful" given the circumstances. He openly challenged others in his party to justify the statements.

Reiner's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. During a past conversation, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the dangers of autocracy if Trump return to power.

"There is autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner said. "If we fall, there’s a danger that democracy crumble around the world."

Regardless of his pointed criticisms, Reiner had previously expressed "complete revulsion" and condemned violence for political ends unequivocally following the shooting of another political figure.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical connection, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once shared the story of the photo shoot, mentioning Trump's demand for "special hairspray" as being photographed on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
