American Military Executes Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to Four Deaths

As stated by a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the US armed forces executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a craft linked to a terrorist group in international waters. Surveillance verified the vessel was transiting along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”

Background and Recent Strikes

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, vowing to increase the military presence.

Only on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Actions Amid Pressure

The administration has faced growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of lawful warfare.

While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a broader political objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the president “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This suggests the military campaign may be part of a strategy to remove Venezuela's current government.
